The West Highland Way – pt I

Europe, U.K.

I love hiking, a lot and when I looked for a multiday hike and found the West Highland Way in Schotland, I was sold. It would be a challenge, because it would be my longest hike so far (154km in 7 days) and it was the first time trekking with camping gear. I asked my […]

Microadventure: a day of kayaking

Microadventures

You don’t have to travel far to have an adventure. It can be small, cheap and close to home. The only must for a micoradventure is that it’s outside! Be creative and just go already! I decided to go kayaking in a place nearby that I didn’t know very well yet. Part I in the […]

London – my first solo trip

Europe, Travelling, U.K.

The word wanderlust is used so much these days that it has become quite a cliché, however it describes best how I feel about travelling. I really have an urge to go and discover new places. I travel regularly but this time I travelled alone, for the first time. I started of small: a citytrip […]

To Rove About

Welcome to To Rove About, a place for honest (travel) stories. The good and the bad about travelling. The wonder of it, the beauty, the reality of it. What it teaches me and what I bring back home with me.

About Elise

I’m Elise and To Rove About is where I share my honest (travel) stories.

I always loved travelling but the moment I got hooked was when I decided at the age of 17 to live abroad for 3 months. I ended up in China, where I tried to learn Chinese and had the best of times. I loved diving into another culture and I grew in so many ways.

I have been travelling ever since.
As a photographer and videographer, I have the urge to document what I see.
And as a journalist, I have the urge to write about what I experience.
‘Honest’ is a key word here, because in the world of travel blogs and all social media, I often missed honesty.

As much as I love travelling, it’s not always as beautiful and easy as it seems on Instagram.
I share the wonder of it, but I also share the struggles.
Every journey teaches me new things and I always go home with new experiences and insights.

We all wonder what life is about and travelling helps me to figure out my ‘why’.
I share my own personal search for happiness.
So that I might help you, with your own search.

Travelling keeps me present in a way I find difficult sometimes in day to day life.

I hope to take you with me on my happiest moments, while also sharing the difficult times.
